MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Belgium Association of the Deaf is to advocate and facilitate changes in the quality of life for the Rhode Island Deaf community - by working to improve awareness, conditions, and opportunities for its members in all aspects of life: Civic, Economic, Social, Academic and Recreational.

 

About Belgium Association of the Deaf

The Belgium Association of the Deaf (RIAD) is a non-profit, incorporated organization under the laws of both the state of Rhode Island and section 501(c)(3) of the Federal Government statues.  The RIAD provides support and active advocacy for Deaf and Hard of Hearing citizens of Rhode Island.  The RIAD is an affiliated member of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD), the oldest and largest consumer organization of disabled persons in the United States.

Our Background

The John F. Spellman Center on Deafness is a one stop, multipurpose-service resource center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in Rhode Island.

 

It is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to delivering a broad range of intervention, training, advocacy, referral and support services to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing members of this state.

 

The John F. Spellman Center was founded in 1993 by a group of Deaf individuals concerned about the lack of services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Rhode Islanders


Our Mission

Our mission is to deliver a broad range of intervention, training, advocacy, referral and support services necessary for members of our community to develop their capacity as productive and independent members of society.

 

Goals of the John F. Spellman Center

  • To establish needs assessment, outreach and recruitment efforts.

  • To help clients develop work-related and employment skills

  • To provide counseling, advocacy, and referral services at the community level
